xAI: grok-imagine-video-1.5-lite
Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Lite is a distilled video generation model from SpaceXAI (xAI), positioned as the cost-performance entry level in the Grok Imagine Video 1.5 family. It accepts text and image inputs and produces video with native, synchronized audio—including sound effects, ambient sound, and lip-synced dialogue. Clips can run from 1 second to 15 seconds at 480p, 720p, or 1080p; 1080p output is rendered at 720p and then upscaled. Seven aspect ratios are supported: 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 3:2, and 2:3. The model is built for fast, affordable iteration. It is faster and lower-cost than its parent, Grok Imagine Video 1.5, making it practical to discard failed takes and regenerate. It suits drafting and prototyping through repeated trial and error, background footage and B-roll, product concept and scene ideation, and high-volume short video production where reshoots are acceptable. The safest workflow is to treat the first generation as a draft, confirm the prompt and source image work, then do the final render. Trade-offs are notable: image quality is lower than the full model, 1080p is upscaled from 720p so detail may differ from native 1080p, subject identity may shift in long clips, and excessive motion instructions can reduce quality. Audio is plausible but not fully controllable, and the model is weak in conversational lip-sync and human anatomical accuracy. It is not listed on the image-to-video leaderboard, so its animation performance lacks independent evaluation. API access is available through partners including OpenRouter, fal, and Vercel AI Gateway; returned video URLs are temporary, so files must be downloaded promptly. Safety and licensing requirements should be checked for commercial use.
