Qwen: qwen-image-2.1-pro
Qwen Image 2.1 Pro is a professional, closed version of Alibaba Qwen team's image model, released on September 20, 2026. It combines text-to-image generation with prompt-guided editing in a single model, and it can compose from up to 10 reference images. Prompts are rewritten by a large language model before generation, and the model supports both a direct mode and an agent mode with optional thinking. It generates natively at 2K resolution with RGBA output, so transparent backgrounds are available without post-processing. The positive prompt accepts 2 to 3000 characters, and three region-specification methods are offered for editing: colored circles drawn on the image, painted mask regions, or an original image plus a separate mask. The model is aimed at professional visual production: product photography, marketing visuals, multi-image composition such as merging six portraits into a group photo or ten furniture photos into one room scene, transparent-background icons, game UI assets, and localized retouching. Qwen reports that it leads on background structure stability during iterative edits and recommends it for transparent image generation and locked-background editing. On Qwen's own undisclosed Qwen-Image-Bench, it scores 62.36 points, above Qwen-Image-2.1 at 60.28 and Nano Banana 2.0 at 59.82. Those benchmark figures are self-built and undisclosed, with no table, sub-scores, or scoring method, so they are Qwen's claims rather than independent measurements. User tests report lower generation quality than GPT Image 1.0, with more errors and artifacts, and the official release does not provide per-image generation seconds, VRAM usage, throughput on specific GPUs, or API pricing details.
